Dorothy Fields and Me: "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly" (view one)

Dangerous Women Two (DW2) opening reception was jammed with art enthusiasts on Saturday, September 8. The exhibition opened September 4 and ended October 6, 2007.

DW2 featured the work of 70 outstanding contemporary women artists from the tri-state area. Each artist selected one "Dangerous Woman" from the early 20th century as her inspiration. Gallery curator, Tricia Fagan provided the list and invited artists to create a new piece of art as an homage to their selected artist's life, art, or philosophy.

I selected Dorothy Fields, songwriter, lyricist, and librettist. I was excited to discover that Dorothy and her brother Herb had written the book for Annie Get Your Gun. I felt an immediate connection because this is the first show in which my sister, Joyce, and I performed in St. John Terrell's Lambertville Music Circus in the early 1950s. Ephemera from my autograph book, scrap book, photos, and newspaper clippings of the Music Circus were collaged to the work.  I call the piece "Dorothy Fields and Me: Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly”. The artwork was done in book format as a tribute to the many books Ms. Fields has written for musical productions.
