Winter in Majorca
acrylic on canvas
5' x 4'
I have completed a custom painting for a room in the 2009 Bucks County Designer House & Gardens at Upper Mountain Farm in Solebury, Pennsylvania. The final touches of the piece went on last week. The 5-foot canvas is featured in "A Gentleman's Study" designed by Robinson Interiors at Sycamore Cottage for a fictional well-traveled "Renaissance Man". Reading a description of the room brought to mind my trip to Majorca with its blazing sun, rugged coastline, and brilliant blue waters. After much layering, scraping and pouring of paint there emerged an abstract painting rich in texture and color with an aged appearance that captures the essence of this beautiful, lush island. The title of the painting "Winter in Majorca" is a nod to George Sand's book of the same title. Working on this piece has been a struggle and a joy!
The Designer House tour runs May 3 - May 31. The project benefits Doylestown Hospital and Village Improvement Association causes. Additional information can be found at http://www.buckscountydesignerhouse.org/index.html.
